ABOUT ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø’S ART PROGRAM

Our Mission
In a world marked by increasing challenges, we need passionate, imaginative, and thoughtful responses by tomorrow’s artists, designers, and creative professionals. The Art program at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø is dedicated to developing and expanding one’s creative process, technical skills, historical and contemporary knowledge of visual culture, and professional goals. Our majors are immersed in a studio-intensive program supported by interdisciplinary collaboration and faculty mentorship.
Facilities
Art and Art History students at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø work and study in the specially-designed Center for the Visual Arts (CVA). Built in 2001, the CVA is an 11.5 million dollar, 66,000 square foot complex encompassing four buildings: the Art Building, the Marion Ady Building, the DeBoer Sculpture Building, and the Schneider Museum of Art. The stunning architecture represents the significance of fine arts to the region. The buildings all have generous natural lighting, high ceilings, and beautiful views of the Siskiyou Mountains.
Six student-run galleries (two in the Art Building and four in Marion Ady) offer students opportunities for resume-building exhibit experience, and nine semi-private studios provide workspace for students outside of the classroom.
Main Art Building
The main Art Building, which houses faculty offices and features a large lobby with fireplace, includes two seminar rooms, the 160-seat Meese Auditorium, and a 50-seat Art History classroom that provides space for classes, lectures, and performances. In the Lower Level of the Art Building is the Ceramics studio and wood shop.
Marion Ady Building
The Marion Ady Building is home to two digital media (Mac) labs for the digital arts and some photography classes, as well as studios for Printmaking, Painting, Drawing, and Photography. An Art Education classroom, lighting studio, general studio, student lounge, wood shop, reading nook and lockers for studio students are also available.
DeBoer Sculpture Studio
Art East, located steps away across Indiana St., has the Sculpture studio with display space for student projects, and an additional wood shop.
Schneider Museum of Art
The Schneider Museum of Art serves both an academic and community audience, building a collaborative environment that engages with the visual arts through exhibitions and programs supporting interdisciplinary study, research, and discourse.
Scholarships
ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø Art and Art History offer scholarships ranging from $200 to $5,000 per year that are available to new and continuing students who major in visual Art or Art History and are outstanding studio artists or scholars. Applications are accepted in early winter for the following academic year. Students must reapply each year to be considered for a scholarship.
Scholarship applications have a recurring annual deadline of March 1st. In order to apply for a scholarship, you first must have applied for admission and have been accepted to ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø.

Other Honors and Scholarships Awarded Annually: (No Application Process)
- Blackfish Gallery Annual Recent Graduates Exhibition – Two top graduates from each of Oregon’s 15 colleges and universities are selected to participate in a summer show in Portland, OR.
- Leon Mulling Award – Multiple awards ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 for students who have been in the Art program for at least 1 year and are in good standing.
- Marion Ady Memorial Scholarship – One award to a student in the Humanities, who is an Oregon resident.
Be prepared with the following:
- GPA
- A one-page maximum (double-spaced) statement about your decision to major in Art or Art History with a personal reflection on your submitted artwork or the importance of art in contemporary society.
- 6-10 jpeg images of artwork completed in the past two years (Studio Art)

A two-page maximum (double-spaced) example of expository writing on a topic of your choice (Art History) - Contact information for an art (or another) teacher who has inspired you in the field of Art or Art History and who may provide a letter of recommendation.
