A minor in Environmental Science & Policy integrates natural sciences and social sciences as a perfect compliment to any other degree program.
Offered as a Secondary Discipline Minor
Built as an introduction to the interdisciplinary nature of environmental issues, the Minor in Environmental Science & Policy (ES&P) provides an equal balance of social, political, biological and earth systems science courses. This interdisciplinary foundation is unique in that it provides students training and experience across the sciences, and fosters a systems-thinking approach to environmental issues.
Our field-oriented curriculum takes advantage of the unique environmental setting of our region and provides opportunities to work with local agencies. Southern Oregon, with its Klamath and Cascade Mountains and interior valleys, is an ideal location for studying and experiencing a variety of environmental issues, including water resources, endangered species, timber, natural hazards, and urban growth issues.
The ES&P Minor, similar to the Bachelor of Science degree, is flexible so students can build on their interdisciplinary training by focusing more on either earth systems science, biological sciences, social sciences, or environmental policy coursework.
Students committed to understanding our natural and human environments, developing sustainability plans, or those interested in more effectively managing our natural resources.
The environmental science & policy minor requires the completion of 32 credits of coursework. Students complete a series of four introductory environmental science & policy courses in the social, biological, and earth sciences. Students also complete 16 credits of upper-division courses in both the natural sciences and social sciences.
Environmental Science & Policy minors pursue majors in a wide range of disciplines including biology, business, sociology & anthropology, and outdoor adventure leadership. ES&P minors deepen their professional portfolio with introductory coursework in the biological, earth, and social sciences as well as selected upper-division coursework in a student’s field of interest. Regardless of your chosen career path, the broad skills you will learn in the environmental science & policy minor will help you stand out in fast changing world.
