Offered as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Major
This Health and Physical Education Teaching Concentration leads toward the certification for teaching in Oregon and most other states, preparing a student to teach grades K-12 in physical education and health as well as coach in a variety of settings. Students are actively engaged in a variety of learning experiences in classrooms, labs and with varied diverse populations and have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in a wide variety of physical activities while learning to teach others.
This major is designed to prepare students for entrance into an MAT to continue toward their teaching certification.
Health and Physical Education Concentration students will take courses in Biology, Community and Environmental Health, and Leadership and Management, as well as a variety of lifetime, leisure and recreational sport courses preparing them to be well rounded physical educators. The curriculum combines science-based coursework and integrates internship components to a student’s curriculum in order to add a real-world working experience. These opportunities provide a showcase in which the student can demonstrate education and experience gained during undergraduate work. Every Health and Exercise Science major will also take a range of courses associated with our core curriculum. To earn a BA or BS in Health and Exercise Science, students must have a GPA in major courses of at least 2.5.
The undergraduate capstone experience is designed to bring reflection and focus to the whole of your college experience. It encourages students to integrate facets of interests with important concepts from Health and Exercise Science. Capstone is a culminating college experience that focuses on features of your interests and requires the use of skills, methodology, and knowledge you have learned throughout your undergraduate curriculum in Health and Exercise Science.
